PYCASSO:
major CO2 capture and
storage project in France
The Pycasso project
In its quest for carbon neutrality, the European Union is setting targets to be reached by 2050. Industry, which emits a large proportion of greenhouse gases (GHGs), owes it to itself to decarbonise activities as quickly as possible.
Find out more about the climatic background
The Pycasso project aims to provide solutions for processing residual CO2, after decarbonisation of the production cycle, through a project developed in the Pyrenean foothills territory.
18,1 % of GHG emissions on French soil come from the manufacturing industry and construction (source “2023 key climate figures”)
6 MtCO2 residual CO2/yr comes from major industries in the Pyrenean foothills
The CCUS chain:
final step in the decarbonisation route
The Pycasso project proposes to roll out CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage) infrastructures in the Far South-West, to capture, transport, store and utilise residual CO2 from industries present in the territory.
Target
Store 6 MtCO2/year
by 2035
Actors in the Pycasso project
To succeed, the project brings together major industrial partners in the Pyrenean foothills and receives the backing of supporters, convinced of its decisive role in decarbonising industry and encouraging the territories’ transition.
