Partners of the Pycasso Project: a consortium of experts

Gathered around the project, major industrial actors across the Pyrenean foothills are involved at all levels of the CCUS chain. This group of experts, aware of the Pycasso programme’s common interest, is fully invested in its implementation, to achieve carbon neutrality for the secondary sector in the South-West of France.

Synergy between partners

Pycasso is driven by a collaborative effort in which each partner plays a complementary role in reaching a common goal: reducing greenhouse gas emissions from industry and promoting a circular economy in the territory.

The major actors already involved in the project are present at each stage in the residual CO2 processing management circuit:

  • Lafarge captures the CO₂ emitted during cement production.
  • Teréga provides the safe transport of captured CO₂ to the sequestration sites.

The cooperation of these companies maximises the effectiveness of the Pycasso project and makes a significant contribution to limiting the impact of industry on the environment, by contributing to its transition.

More than 470 industrial sites across the nation

An expert in the manufacture of construction materials, Lafarge France produces cement, concrete and aggregates on an industrial scale. With more than 4200 employees working across more than 470 French sites, it develops innovative low-carbon material solutions to help the construction sector reach its environmental targets, and encouraging a circular economy at the same time.

The Holcim group subsidiary is committed to the ecological transition and is working to enable the construction of more sustainable facilities and boost the local circular economy in its territory. It has adopted the group’s strategy on reducing CO2 emissions per tonne of cement, and so its involvement in the Pycasso project is totally justified. The Martres-Tolosane cement works will be the first industry in the programme to join the CCUS chain, as a continuation of the decarbonisation efforts it has already made.

Boasting expertise and know-how acquired from nearly 80 years’ experience, Teréga develops and operates gas transport infrastructures in the South-West of France and at cross-border interconnection points, as a public service operator. Involved in the industrial energy transition, the company plays a key role in the quest for carbon neutrality, through its involvement in major projects in the biomethane and hydrogen sectors, and through its actions as part of the Pycasso project. It is working to extend its network to take in new decarbonised gases, to accelerate the transformation of the industrial sector and the adoption of different forms of energy in the regions, within the context of European environmental challenges.

As a specialist in gas transport and storage, Teréga has a regional network of more than 5000 km of pipelines and two natural gas underground storage sites. It envisages a large scale operation to meet the needs of the Pycasso project, and will provide the transport of CO2 from emission points to storage or reutilisation sites across the territory.

Resolutely future focused, Teréga bases its ambitions on new energy solutions and is involved in the development of the hydrogen and biomethane sectors.
